Thanks so all who participated in Serving Our Generation at Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, October 2nd. You all made a difference!

One of the members of our group was asked to join the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity as a result of our time serving. What a great opportunity that became available, just by acting in an effort to show God's love to meet a need.

Wish List for Samaritan Ministries

A Day of Serving at Samaritan

"I just got back from Samaritan Ministries. They passed out large signs, stickers and jugs to all the volunteers to get a head start on their Annual Penny Campaign.

The person in charge was so happy to hear that I was in the Heavenview Christmas Choir and she remarked on our love for God and our willingness to stand in the cold and rain last year during their Penny Campaign.

I love serving at Samaritan Ministries."

GoodGuides at Goodwill Industries

Volunteer at Goodwill by being a GoodGuides Mentor:

Goodwill Industries International received a 24-month grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to provide mentoring to youth, ages 12-17, who are at risk for juvenile delinquency.

The Goodwill GoodGuides Youth Mentoring Program will provide career exploration, mentoring and skill development activities that offer youth encouragement and resources they need to remain in school, improve school performance, and develop career plans.

Each youth will have an Individual Service Plan in which they will identify their personal education and career goals.

Volunteer adult and peer mentors will meet regularly with the youth and will help connect them to resources that will help the young people explore career alternatives.

Please email Bryan for more details.

Help a 12th Grade Student Graduate!

Help us stop the next 800 students from dropping out.

Graduate. It pays. partners match Caring Adults with high school students who need extra support on the road to graduation. In our first two years, we matched 172 students with Caring Adults, and 9 out of 10 of the students advanced to the next grade or graduated.

Please consider becoming a CARING ADULT.

You don't need special skills, you only need:

* a caring heart, a willingness to listen and to treat young people with respect.

* the ability to empathize with your student and help them define and reach their goals.

* a commitment to being there every week.

Just one hour each week for one school year will help one student build a brighter future.

Salem Terrace Assisted Living

We enjoyed visiting with our friends at Salem Terrace last evening.

With Valentine's Day cards in hand, created by a local Boy Scout Troop and Carla B.'s Sunday School Class, we walked through the doors to find our friends.

As we handed out Valentine's Day cards, that were made especially for them from children who wanted to make a difference, their eyes lit up with joy.

We talked about the scripture, "For God so LOVED the world that He GAVE..."

When you LOVE, you GIVE.

We talked about, with great thankfulness, how God GIVES to us every day. We sang, "Yes, Jesus Loves Me". Then, we made a Valentine's Day card for someone special in our lives, reiterating that when we LOVE, we GIVE.

It was a wonderful time!

If you are interested in getting involved in Serving at Salem Terrace, please email Christie at ChrisPonjican@hotmail.com.

We serve at Salem Terrace on the SECOND TUESDAY of each month from 6 PM until 7 PM.
